How to play Wordzy
Each day Wordzy gives you one clue for a two-word phrase, such as HEART + BREAK or MAPLE + SYRUP. Everyone gets the same pair. A new one arrives every night at midnight, Toronto time.
Two words, six tries each
Guess the first word in up to 6 tries. Once it is solved or revealed, move on to the second word, which also gets 6 tries. The clue stays on screen the whole time, and the first word is your biggest hint for the second.
Words are between 3 and 6 letters long. The blank letter slots under the clue show how long each one is.
Reading the colours
- Blue means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
- Orange means the letter is in the word but in a different spot.
- Grey means the letter is not in the word at all.
Every guess has to be a real English word of the right length. A repeated letter only turns blue or orange as many times as it appears in the answer.
Learn the phrase
When you finish, Wordzy shows you what the phrase means, plus yesterday's phrase if you missed it. You can browse every past pair on the past pairs page.
Streaks and rewards
Solve both words on consecutive days to build your streak. Miss a day or miss a word and the streak resets. Streaks earn badges at 3, 7, 30, 50, 100 and 365 days, and unlock new colour themes at 7, 30, 50 and 100 days.
Tips
- Read the clue twice. It describes the whole phrase, not just the first word.
- Start with letters that are common in English, such as A, E, R, S and T.
- Once you have the first word, think of everyday phrases that start with it.
Your stats and streak are saved in your browser on this device, so play on the same phone or computer to keep your streak.
